I have been working with leather for the last nine years,it all began in the south of Spain,in Granada. A country renowned for its traditional artisanos. I was lucky enough to meet some of these craft folk and was shown some basic but everlasting techniques which evolved into my love for this craft.
Bringing this home and exploring the craft is what i did for the next couple of years, learning all the different techniques involved like stitching, carving and even dyeing the leather. The passion kept growing and growing, a constant flow of ideas and designs for new projects. Doing stalls through the summers gave me good prospective on the consumer market...!! Its tough being an artist and making money from it...
After the ups and downs of artistic survival i was even luckier get to an apprentice job in traditional breifcase makers shop called Mackenzies. This training proved to be very valuable indeed, showing me the opposite end of this beautiful craft, from using industrial sewing machines to pattern making and constructing long lasting traditional briefcases. I still work part time at Mackenzies.
About four years ago i took the first steps into developing my own buisness....and from this seed grew ROOTCRAFT LEATHER.
My aim is to provide unique bespoke leather goods, ranging in styles, techniques and originality.
Enjoy and keep the creativity flowing.
